This page is testing whether search indexes make use of the value of anchor text. For more tests, see Anchor Tests and the List of Search Indexing Tests.
Some search engines will recognize anchor text and give it extra weight when scoring search results. They assume that words in the anchor text are important and may help define a page.
This page is contains the test codes in anchor text, with named anchors and href anchors. The almost-identical page has these codes in plain text. If you do a search and find that this page comes up consistently before the other, it may be due to additional weight from the anchors.
