We asked why web site managers install search engines. In this survey, 392 (about 40%) of the survey responses were from those who have installed search engines: this proportion has not changed this year.
Most of the site managers (56%) cited improved navigation for their visitors as a reason to install search, but the proportion was smaller than in earlier years. Many site managers also believe that a search engine adds to the professional appearance of a site (23%), while marketing departments are becoming more active in encouraging managers to add search engines. Note that the survey allows for multiple reasons.
