SearchTools Survey - July 2001

Multiple Languages

Many sites have pages in more than one language, and we see some correlation in the number of languages and the installation of search engines. We believe that as the sites become more complex and wide-ranging, search engines become more important for locating information.

This survey does not cover the issues of language and character code recognition, which are particularly difficult in multilingual sites, nor did we ask about the complex problem of cross-language searching.
