SearchTools Survey - October 2000

Size of Sites

As we expected, larger and more complex sites require additional navigation, and search engines help to provide that. We continue to be surprised by the number of very large sites which do not provide search access: perhaps that's related to the perceived difficulty and expense of indexing tens of thousands of pages. We did have to reconfigure our scale, as our previous questions stopped at 5,000 pages: we now have options for very large sites, up through a half-million pages.

Previous Size of Sites

Our older scale was too small, it ended at 5,000 pages. We're including it here for comparison.
