  • Absolute links have the http in them:
    <A HREF="http://www.internet.com>

  • Relative links work off the location of the existing page

    <A HREF="local-file.html">

    <A HREF="/index.html">

    <A HREF="../parent-folder-file.html">

  • Watch out for bad relative links - browsers are more forgiving than spiders

    <A HREF="../../../../over-the-top.html">

    <A HREF="../otherdir/./sideways.html">

    <A HREF="../otherdir/../../weird.html">
