Avi's Proposal: Use Syndication Standards for Index Notification

• Send notification of new, updated and deleted content

• Include SSL Authentication

• Link to URL

• Include all useful metadata - Dublin Core and others

• Content text only - avoid indexing navigation and unrelated data

• Possibilities for end-user authentication and access control

• Options for streaming (push) or checking (pull)

• Single standard makes it easy for search engines

• You get two checklist items: searchability & syndication!

• Recommended Standard: RSS 1.0

  • allows for metadata and long content
